Further a field in Leeds, Pastor Shola Adeaga led a team from Jesus House to join the Healing Wings Christian Centre in their first year anniversary and dedication service. The service coincided with the 800th year of Leeds as a city. Pastors Chieme and Tosin Okuzu who were sent from Jesus House to establish the church, made a lasting impression on local church leader Pastor Paul Lancaster. He spoke of their enthusiasm, when they arrived in Leeds to establish a new church, even though they were new to the area. He also expressed gratitude for their support during the Feast of Nations to commemorate the 800th anniversary of Leeds. During the feast, over 150 nations hoisted their flags to promote Christian faith in Leeds. With some gusto and enthusiasm of his own, he prophesied that “Ten thousand boys will abandon their old unprofitable life this year, and surrender themselves to God”.

The prophesy evoked even more enthusiasm from the congregation with a standing ovation and shouts of Halleluyah! So loud, it drowned out the pastor’s voice.

In his sermon, Pastor Sola Adeaga, read from Malachi 4:2, and reminded believers to be righteous and fear the Lord.“But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out of pastures.”

Pastor Chieme Okuzu spoke passionately about the vision for Healing Wings. It was not just another church but a place for promoting and fostering peace and better relationships, and building bridges in the diverse community.

“Healing Wings is a place where the neglected, the depressed, the frustrated and the confused can find love, acceptance, help, hope, forgiveness and encouragement. We are here to build a people of holiness, integrity, purpose, and character who worship God with unflinching faith. We are called to present the gospel to the lost, to feed the hungry, to clothe the poor and to care for the widowed and orphans”.

Pastor Chieme went on to highlight the future plans of the Centre, which includes Advocacy Network in partnership with Stainbeck Church (URC), supporting and working alongside Shabach in getting the youth off the streets, voice training for the rising stars - young and old, working with the council to raise awareness on important issues affecting our community and encouraging integration and regeneration.
